My name is Paul Beale,I am a mature photographer from Birmingham, West Midlands.
I have been taking pictures now for the last 10 years or so, in this time I have had a wide range of cameras from simple point and shoot through to Bridge cameras. My current camera is a DSLR it is an entry level camera a Sony Alpha a300. What I like about the DSLR is that they are a more challenging camera to learn how to use. Ever since I have had this Sony DSLR I have shot in manual mode as I feel this offers the greatest versatility. It allows you to be creative and gives you total control over everything.
For the last 12 months ive been shooting with a Nikon D90. As much as i loved my Sony I found the price of new lenses was far to expensive for my budget. The Nikon glass is much cheaper and easier to get hold of. The other plus point for the Nikon is that it performs better at higher ISO which means ive been able to capture images that were out of the sonys reach.
Currently I am studying a Level 3 Photography course at South and City College Birmingham.(Digbeth Campus). I decided to take on a college course so that I could improve my knowledge and hopefully it would push me to do photographs that are out of my comfort zone. Before doing this course I did do a Level 2 NCFE course and a few short courses in photography. I am always trying to expand my knowledge and learn as much as I can.
Update - Ive since finished the college course with a D* D* D grade which i was very pleased about. Ive also attained the Royal Photography Society's LRPS Qualification.
The only hard part about doing photography for me is the actual getting out and about. I was born with a club foot and currently use crutches to help me get around. it does limit my options somewhat but I do try and push myself to do more. I have been in and out of hospital over the years having different operations on my foot, and I was also at one point in a coma after a bad allergic reaction to something. I have found that photography has helped me with my recovery. I now feel that I am at a stage in my life where I know will not get any better than how I am currently, but I`m not going to let this stop me from doing what I enjoy and if I can make a career out this all the better. Aim High don't let anything get you down, life's too short for that.
I am currently seeking employment within the photographic industry and I am always looking for new opportunity`s to expand my portfolio.
